I saw the God today

There was this little child, six years old, looking into the jar full of colorful candies. She opened her fist and looked at the 50 paise coin got from mother as her pocket money. She asked for two, one for her and another for her little brother at home. He is not old enough to accompany her to the school. After unwrapping one and putting into her mouth and keeping the other in her bag safely, she looked around and saw all her friends vanished. Now it is a big problem for her to cross the busy road and get home. No one known was visible around. Even the known traffic police is not there and instead, there was a new one with terribly frightening big mustaches. Vehicles were not stopping. On other days, the group of children are escorted across the road safely by the traffic police. Today, she is left alone with no one known around.

She closed her eyes, thought of her mother, and the little brother at home. His father and the smile of granny flashed past her mind. She prayed the God to help her. She started to cry. Suddenly she felt someone's hand on her shoulders, a tap signalling to stretch her hand. She stretched her hand and her little palm went into a big and rough hand. There was a little pull and she started walking with her eyes closed.

They stopped and her hand was released. Slowly she opened her eyes and the huge mustaches were there before her with a big smile. Smiles returned to her face too. She wiped off the tears from her eyes with the back of her palm. The mustached were no longer looking frightening, Rather a face full of love was there before her. She flashed a big smile. gave him a tight hug with a sweet poppy on his cheek.

At home, with a tight embrace to her mother, she was saying. "You know mama, I saw the God today."

(Based on the childhood experience of a friend.)
